How to De-Escalate Conflict

Douglas E. Noll, JD, MA, is a full time internationally recognized mediator and peacemaker, specializing in difficult, complex, and intractable conflicts. He is also the author of 3 award winning books and has just released his 4th book titled "De-Escalate: How to Calm an Angry Person in 90 Seconds or Less".

In this episode, Doug talks about his technique and book on conflict de-escalation and how through years of litigation and mediation he has learned and practiced this technique. Noll explains, “I developed these skills as a professional mediator to help very angry
people make better decisions about the problems they faced. I honed the skills in some of California’s maximum-security prisons with inmates serving life sentences. These inmates have stopped violent fights, gang riots, arguments, and bullying using the skills in this book. Dozens of inmates have told me that if they had learned these skills 10, 15, 20 years earlier, they would not be in prison today.”

Doug also talks about the Prison of Peace project which incorporates his de-escalation techniques and currently operating inside 10 California prisons and how it has positively impacted over 25,000 inmates in the past 7 years!
