Kicking off the show today was Tampa based contemporary artist and photographer, Amy Martz. She is the featured artist for Tampa’s only 4-Star hotel, Le Meridien and her Art Collection is displayed throughout the hotel’s guest rooms, lobby and the hotel’s award winning arrival art. Best known for her use of natural lighting, Amy discussed her love of architecture throughout many segments of the first hour. She worked closely with EWI Construction during the building of Oxford Exchange and many photos of this development can be found online at www.amymartz.com. Her art is about to bringing to the eye of others what she sees through her lens. Many of us see rectangular or circular buildings but Amy sees much more and works to highlight that in her photography.
Amy is self-taught with no formal education on photography, just a lot of research and listening to mentors and of course practice and hard work. Her love of Tampa is powerful and obvious throughout the discussion and she shares a light-hearted story about her encounter with Gene Simmons of KISS during the 2nd segment.
Limited editions from her Le Meridien Tampas collection can be seen soon for sale at the Tampa Museum of Art, the Henry B. Plant Museum, and various boutique art galleries throughout the Tampa Bay area. Several pieces from the series have been acquired by the esteemed permanent art collection of Tampa’s History Center, as well as the City of Tampa’s permanent art collection.
